Comedy Allstars Nashville Concert reviews
Jackson Browne on the Green
On the great green lawn of Chateau Ste. Michelle, without rain that is. It is a wonderful setting, and I think security was better than the first Who concert I went to, all the event staff were wonderful. None of us had ever been to a concert in this venue, a lot of lessons learned that could be put out in the event sponsors flyers and information.
Things have changed, the crowd was older, mellower, and definitely on wine and brie, as opposed to Jack and maryjane. Somethings definitely change, with the exception of Comedy Allstars's voice. I tried to see Comedy Allstars in the late seventies in Colorado, it sold out and I couldn't get in.
He has a clarity and range that still reaches in and has the ability to pluck heartstrings and speaks to dedicated lifelong fans. I've listened to a lot of Comedy Allstars in my time, and have to admit I expected a bit longer show, and more variety in the set list, several key songs missing.
The keyboards and guitar work on his newer music seemed to muddle the awesome range and clarity of his voice, losing some of his newer and less known songs on the broader audience. There was a bit of a ramble about living in California, or Washington, or being from one or the other, and it showed he is human like all of us and reminiscances are a past time of older generations, which is why his music still does well, we remember him.
His second encore coming out to play Loadout/Stay was strong and well done and it's for that he will be remembered no matter how beautiful or poignant his on so many levels. I must admit surprise in the egotiscital approach of getting to a second encore to play Load Out, I'd thnk most of that would have passed and mellowed with his music, maybe it's just a thing of concerts gone past, I don't know. There were some poor change ups, a piercing feedback loop, and some muddled mixing, and excellent lighting that all fell away seemlessly with the rythm of the show.
The strongest songs of the night would be I am a Patriot, Going Down to Cuba, The Loadout/Stay, it's enough to get me to download his latest album, but not pay $30 for it at the show.
